Still continuing along the lines of conversation: Here's an interview that Bill Moyers conducted with Jon Stewart. The funny man takes time away from satire to talk about what he does and why. Clearly Moyers has a lot of respect for the guy.
The Cluetrain Manifesto got the conversation going. Now companies are tapping in. I can see the value in Dell's Ideastorm--a community participation forum that came to life after Dell was lambasted in the blogosphere by Jeff Jarvis in his Dell Hell rants. On the flip side is StudioDell--another corporate effort to engage the customer base, this one enabling enthusiasts to upload their Dell video stories. Not surprisingly, not much happening on that front.
And just read that Delta Air Lines has recently jumped on the bandwagon, set to launch a new online community. Trying to imagine that conversation. Peanuts versus pretzels?
At some point companies need to figure out just what kind of conversations will yield more than just talk.
Critics seem divided on this Annie Liebowitz portrait of the queen. But, to me, Liebowitz has perfectly captured the essense of the royal "brand."
The day scored a perfect 10 for the district-wide junior olympics. Six schools and hundreds of olympians competed under sunny (hot!) skies.
Skyler led off the first leg of the 400 meter 5th grade boys' blue team relay race--and led the pack. The result: First place.
Drew ran the third leg of the 400 meter 5th grade boys' red team relay race and kept the lead for his team. The result: First place.
Drew qualified for the finals of the 60 yard hurdles. His result: 2nd place overall.
Skyler went 8 for 12 in the basketball free throw competition. He placed 4th overall.
Mom and dad: Thrilled.
Okay. I have another blog. Here on my business website. The most recent post: today. The one before that: 407 days ago. (And it wasn't even written by me.)
It's not that I have nothing to say. In fact, usually once a week my business partner or I will say something along the lines of: "Hey, we should blog about that."
But we haven't. Our business blog software (WordPress) is a tad intimidating. It's always felt just a bit fragile--like posting something was going to break something else. Or look wrong. Or throw up an error message.
For a business blog, it makes sense to use software without contextual ads. (You don't want your great business insights nicely framed by a competitor's ad.) And there are benefits to pingbacks, trackbacks, permalinks--all that link-love. So VOX won't replace our business blog.
But it will be where I'm blogging. And that says a lot.
One of the things I'm grappling with is just where to focus this blog.
Don't have the answer yet, but think Ira Glass does a great job talking about storytelling. And isn't storytelling, in the end, what a blog is all about? (Either by accident or design.) If you've got a spare 17 minutes, check out all four clips.
My husband wants a Prius. See why?
From Ads of the World, the text reads: "Drive one day less and look how much carbon monoxide you'll keep out of the air we breathe." (Maybe our second car should be a bike...)
